Rochford—Simmons-Lyle
John Rochford was born in Ireland and immigrated to PEI around 1818. His son, Patrick, born on PEI, married Maran “Marianne” Carr from Carr’s Pond, Lot 14. Their son,James, married Elizabeth McConnell with whom he had five chil- dren. Elizabeth Rochford, a granddaughter of Patrick and Maran, married Joseph Simmons who served as an elder of Lot 16 Presbyterian Church. The 1880 Atlas shows Simmons living on the Jim Ramsay property on the Lyle Road, presently owned by Keith and Fred Barrett. The Simmons had no chil- dren. Joseph had two sons from a second marriage (Mary Stewart).
Patrick and Maran’s daughter, Sarah Lee, married John Raymond Lyle. The couple had ten children: Nettie, James Austin, and Frame (probably named after Rev. Frame, who was the Presbyterian minister in Lot 16 at that time), Robert, John, Edgar, Daniel, Laura, Sadie, and Carrie. Daniel lived on the Lyle Road where Maisy and Ivan Clark lived. Dan and his wife had two sons, erliam and Ralph. At the age of eleven, shortly before the family left Belmont, William (Dr. Bill) plant- ed spruce trees at the back of the property; a few of those are still growing today.

Srnith-Day History

He and his bride went to Boston, Mass. where their first son, William, was born. Since Charles was at sea for long periods of time, Eliza returned to her home in Lot 16. The couple had three children born on PEI: Edward, and twins, Mary Ann and Margaret. William married Jessie Adeline Day from Wellington.
