ome people take the time to record the events of the day in their diary. These events may, at times, seem mundane and trivial but, when studied after an interval of a century, give a glimpse of life that would otherwise be lost. In reading these diaries one gets to see the activities of people as well as the unique

character of the individual. John Best’s diary consists of two small notebooks dated from

1916 to 1920 and 1920 to 1922; a portion of the first is printed here. The notes were transcribed as read; in places the handwrit- ing was illegible.

1916

June 6: I was at Summerside today to the fox meeting. I Paid T N Enman for tablets $2.00, bought one lb tea and 1/2 doz oranges and a bottle of wine

June 13: we sent six tablets to Grace $3.00 also Moodys sermons. this is Sunday 18th Rain today

this is Sunday the 25 Fine and bright today. Three services today July 10:We washed today Will bred Minn to Domano 10

this is 11 Haney Gamey went to Sside, WIll went to Sside, it is windy but fine
