Gregory soon became bored with nothing to do, so we took him out to the country with us. There were hay rides, children around, and lots of exploring to do in the wide open fields.

One evening, Joe was baling hay near the woods. Gregory went hunting, and found to his dismay, the skeleton of an animal’s head. After some discussion and consultation with each other, we assumed that the structure was the head of a large cow.

Gregory was fascinated with this framework, and wanted to take it home to Massachusetts with him. At first his grandmother disagreed, but with persuasion, Gregory won out, so we all helped to clean, polish and wrap it securely. .

When Gregory left for home on the bus, he was carrying his prized possession. He had some explaining to do at the border, but it did arrive in the United States safely, where it spent many years adorning the entrance to his garage at home.

We were convinced that a little part of Bear River made a small contribution to our American friends when the skeleton made it all the way to the United States.
