NO CATS ALLOWED

A barn would not exist without cats running around. Our barn was no exception. Most of the cats living in our barn were quite attractive. Some were a yellowish brown color with a mixture of white fur here and there. Then there were some fluffy black ones which gave the multitude of cats some color.

Joe was very good to his barn cats, who in turn were good to him, for they kept the barns free from rodents. The cats did not have given names, but most were called, Mother Cat. Joe fed the cats large bowls of fresh milk. It was not skim milk either, but rather 100% whole milk with all the cream contents still within. During the winter months, Joe would check to see that all his pets were safely indoors, before he closed the doors for the night.

Now there was one feature about cats that Joe did not like, and that was to find them on the doorstep, or worst still, in the house. That was a No! No! Blair, on the other hand adored the cats, and would often hide one under his jacket and take it into the house when his father was not looking.

Here in this picture he had even a better solution. The photographer found him lying on the front veranda with his cats. Here you can see he is very contented, and felt quite sure that his father would not find him, because farmers seldom use the front entrance. Blair and his cats have gained one more victory!
