FUNNY HAPPENINGS

Blair was very interested in getting his own bike. He had worked at the hay and had his own money. He went to Home Hardware and landed home with a new bike.

The following year Blair was tired of this bike, so he made a deal with Terry to buy it from him for half price. Blair had paid $200.00 for the bike, so Terry used his money that he had earned during the hay season, and paid

Blair $100.00 for the bike. Blair was a great entrepreneur and suggested to Terry that they should

make some changes to the bike. Blair said, “Terry, let’s make your bike into a motor bike and you will be able to drive it to school”. Terry was fascinated with the idea, and Blair, the mechanic, started the construction. The first problem was that Blair had to cut the pedals off the bike. Blair solemnly promised Terry that he would put them back on. A motor was a necessity to run the bike, so, they found one on a lawn mower. They were still short of a cog, and (hoping that their father was not in need of it right away) took the one out of the combine box. They welded the cog to the shaft, but to do this, had to place the bike on the ground. When they raised the bike to an upright position, the motor was on its side and all the oil leaked out on the ground.

There was no clutch or brakes and someone had to hold the bike upright. The bike made one trip across the yard before being laid to rest. The venture had been a complete flop. Terry’s money had gone down the drain. However, behind every cloud there is a silver lining, for Blair learned from his mistakes, and went on to become a licensed mechanic. He did promise Terry that “Bicycle Repair” would not be included in his mechanics operation, and he was true to his word.

Another incident occurred one evening when Joe was on his way to the barn to start the milking. At that moment a large float drove into the yard. The truck belonged to Campbell and Burns from Bedeque. On the float was a shiny, new, blue tractor lawn mower. Joe knew that there was an error somewhere, as he had never ordered this machine. The man asked for Mr. Blair MacIsaac. Blair, blushing from head to toe stepped forward. Blair had seen an ad in the Guardian advertising lawn mowers, and he answered the ad, not knowing the cost or where the money was going to come from.
