AUNT JEAN AND AUNT GENEVIEVE

Aunt Jean was adored by her nieces and nephews. She was single at the time, and had great interest in our children, and was always sending them gifts of money or something else that they liked. All six children received their first watch from this lady.

Jean was Kevin’s godmother, so when she came home on visits, she gave him special privileges. She took Kevin down street to Vincent MacIsaac’s corner store, where he stood at the candy counter and Jean would say, “Now pick out anything that you would like to have”. After he made his choices, she would then say, “Take as many candy as you want”. You can imagine how that would echo in the ears of a ten year old.

Kevin, Dianne and Patsy, often wrote letters to her. Gary, Blair and Terry were too young to write so did not receive as many gifts as the others. They would be watching the mailman for an answer to their letter. Sure enough, it would arrive with a five dollar bill tucked inside. I’m not sure if it was the letter or the money that interested them the most.

Christmas was a special time for the children who kept a close watch for the mailman’s daily arrival. There was great rejoicing when they saw parcels left near the mailbox. Aunt Genevieve joined Jean in the gift giving. The children were ecstatic with joy when they opened the gifts to find toys, rather than clothes.

Both Aunts were very talented when it came to selecting presents for their nieces and nephews. They had the ability to find the cutest and the best toys. This delighted the children and kept them entertained for hours.

Jean kept all the letters that she received from the children, so I have included a few notes of interest that were incorporated in some of the

letters.
