Drilling holes along the Dock Road for electric power poles Of pOICS at Elmsdale to be used for the re-

building of the power lines. The poles had toppled like dominoes during the storm. Once again the EA. Tucker Company came to the assistance of Maritime Electric. The line between Elmsdale and Alberton had to be completely rebuilt. Finally, two months later, on March 5, 1956, electric power was restored to Elmsdale, Elmsdale West and Brockton. In 1963 another freezing rainstorm disrupted electric power but

the damage was not as severe as the 1956 storm.

- STORMS The “Western Cyclone” of August 1892- The only reference found to this storm

was in the Island Guardian August 25, 1892:

The storm that swept over the western part of the Island Wednesday night seemed to have its center in O’Leary. . .the wind was accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning, and a regular pour of rain. . .A strip of green woods about a quarter of a mile wide was blown down and pieces of fences have been completely blown away, and no trace of them has been found. Untold damage has been done to the crops. At Dock Road some five houses were blown down, and George McArthur so badly hurt that he will likely die. His house was blown down upon him.
