(3) SAM (SAYLEEM) ZAKEM (1902-1972) Sayleem Zakem was born in 1902 in Kfeir the same year that his father Joseph left for Canada . At the time of writing, I have not been able to pinpoint the year he came to Canada . When Dad and Said went back to Lebanon inl924, he mentioned in his notes that my grandmother, Toufic, Nahil and Mariam were there to meet them. There was no mention of Sayleem. The immigration records of 1925-35 mentioned Nahil , Said, Salwa Toufic and my grandmother Zarfie. Again, there is no mention of Sayleem. It's likely that he came on his own before 1925. On June 23, 1946 he married Germaine Bilodeau in Montreal and shortly after moved to Charlottetown where he opened a small grocery store on the corner of King and . Peter Trainor was the previous owner, who was robbed and murdered by two men named Lund and Phillips in the early 1940's. They were convicted and hung and it was the last execution on the Island. Germaine Bilodeau and Sayleem Zakem June 23, 1946 Aunt Germaine was a warm and likable person and she and my mother became very good friends. It gave my mother a chance to brush up on her French and a chance for my aunt to learn English and Arabic. 48
