ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The authors and publishers wish to express their sincere appreciation to those who have assisted in the preparation of this history of the Charlottetown Baptist Church, especially the former and current members who made the effort to provide the wealth of information and photographs included in the story. The extensive information on recent decades, saved by Hilda Lewis , Hesta MacDonald and the late Helen Scranton , was particularly valuable. Thank you to the staff of the Provincial Archives of Prince Edward Island for their learned direction in assisting us through countless hours of research. We appreciate the two former thumbnail histories of this church, prepared by Alfred Sterns in 1904 and Dr. Artemas Clark in 1959. Their information provided the basic foundation for our story, and were also the source of information for a number of other brief histories of the church done in recent years. We have also carefully noted the comments, and authors, from other Island and Maritime Baptist histories referred to throughout the text. They helped tie our information together. We were especially excited to have uncovered perhaps the only photograph, albeit distant, of the octagonal Baptist church built on in 1879. From this photo, and detailed media descriptions, Dennis Friesen of the church family was able to use his talents to create a beautiful visual memory of it, one that will be a meaningful treasure for future generations. Thank you Dennis, for bringing this era of our story to life. Our history of First Baptist is presentable because of the dedicated editing of church member Sharon Vance, who was able to convince us that sentences do not end with a comma. Sharon 's effort was a major contribution, and we sincerely appreciate it. Thank you for the professional assistance provided by Shawn MacKenzie and the staff at Kwik Kopy. It meant a lot to have their experience and capability close at hand. Finally, we convey a special thank you to our wives for allowing our usual extensive hours of housework to be converted into the preparation of this story. We wonder if they realize the sacrifice? All assistance in any way was truly appreciated. -Trie/4urr)ors
