worshipped through two centuries. Only the move to Great George Street in 1853, for 25 years, broke the tradition. It was also right across the corner from the existing church, making a physical move relatively easy. Things began to happen quickly, in late 1957. A budget was established, a building committee was formed and a financial campaign was initiated. They used the professional Wells Corporation to raise the $70,000 required to provide basic funding for the big project.
- The excitement over the realization that a new church structure was going to be built was evident in all phases of church activity. The building committee was in high gear and plans for the new facility, completed by Charlottetown architect G. Keith Pickard, only added to the enthusiasm. Nelson Good was chairman of the building committee, with members Dr. J.A. Clark, Bob Nicholson, Capt. Carl Burke, Charlie Scranton, Sid Burhoe and Charles Hamm.

D’J'A' Clark ‘Hi'dalm‘m'm'm Bud McMurtry had served for three years as Provincial Commissioner, been president of the Provincial Boy Scout Council and was one of five Canadians serving on the national Scout program committee.
The campaign for building funds began seriously in November 1957, and by early February 1958, over 90% of the budgeted objective had been reached. The old Turner home was demolished in May, and on June 2, in an impressive ceremony, Deacon J. Artemus Clark broke ground. Pastor Mitton announced, ”This day has been reached, after careful and prayerful planning”. The new church would be
