built by Stevens Construction of . It was owned by B.D. Stevens , a past president of the Maritime United Baptist Convention , who agreed to build the structure at cost. Stevens' foreman, Otis Keddy , immediately took the reins of the project, and a new Charlottetown United Baptist Church was under construction. Church Clerk Sterling Inman was forced, for health reasons, to give up his position in September and Layton Stone took on the job until a regular clerk could be found. The finance committee, overseeing every cost-related detail of the project, was headed by Chairman Ralph Manning , with members Sid Burhoe, Harold Jenkins , Ross Down, Ira Lewis , Gordon Holmes , Stewart Ives and Lester Gillespie . After a summer of construction, the new building was taking shape. It is easy to imagine members of the congregation attending services, looking across the street and commenting on the progress of their new house of worship.
