finance committee, pleased with their planning effort, considered the project well under control. As the old parsonage was on the property next door to the vacated church, it was felt that it would have to be a part of the package, in order for it to sell. Again, Captain Carl Burke and his wife Florence came into the picture and offered to build a new parsonage, if the church could acquire a property. A property at , situated on the corner of , was purchased for $4,500, and plans to build on the site were immediately developed. While considering offers for the former church property, the old empty building was leased on a monthly basis to Simpson -Sears Limited , as a storage area. Mrs. Ray Genge organized one of the first groups in the new First Baptist Church, a Girl Guide troop to join the long established and active Scouts, Cubs and Brownies. Baptist Guides were active immediately, with over half of them attending a 10 day camp at Point, on the West River near Cornwall . Mrs. Ron (Gloria) Atkinson was hired as the first part-time Christian Education Director, and within six months there were three new groups added to the church's youth movement; Young Peoples , and Senior and Junior High Fellowships . A new church member leading one of these youth groups would be a future pastor of First Baptist, Richard Coffin . Land clearing for the new parsonage began in the spring of 1961, and on May 15, in an impressive ceremony. Marguerite "Peg" Mitton turned the first sod to begin construction. The beautiful new home was completed in seven months and was officially opened in December, when Florence Burke cut the ribbon at the front door. A photo of Capt. Carl Burke and Pastor Mitton was hung in the new Baptist parsonage. The old vacated parsonage on was temporarily rented to the Provincial Department of Health and Welfare, again until a sale could be finalized for the total property.
