concern. Rev. Malcolm Harlow had long expressed his feelings about the need for an associate pastor but was carrying the load himself without complaint. The Deacon’s Board also felt help was required and made a decision to employ a qualified assistant. In June, Lic. John Churchill joined the staff of First Baptist, on a one year trial basis, to look after Christian Education responsibilities. John Churchill was from Nova Scotia and had just graduated, (he was not yet ordained) from the Andover Newton Theological Seminary. He and Malcolm Harlow were an excellent team, bringing new spiritual life to the church.
