to say the least. In the first 120 years of the church's existence there had only been 21 lifetime deacons appointed. Since the adoption of term deacons 15 years earlier, there had already been over 50 appointed. The fact that some would complete 4 year terms and others would resign or move after the first, second or third year, requiring shorter term replacements, make it almost impossible to document all names for this story. All appointed were excellent choices, but we sense the original demand of impeccable Christian lifestyle was now too high a standard. Pastor Gordon Horsman , his wife Joanne and family, enjoyed Charlottetown , but when an opportunity opened for him in the Coverdale Baptist Church near Moncton, he accepted God's direction and moved to a calling closer to home. Gordie Horsman was only at First Baptist for a year but in that short time made a multitude of lifetime friends. The Horsman family left Charlottetown in October. Throughout 1980, the bus ministry, directed by Bob Poley , continued to provide an invaluable service to thechurch. Three buses were operating, although the fleet purchased were old or used vehicles, requiring more maintenance than could sometimes be provided. A total of 18 members worked diligently as drivers, captains and helpers, to make the service work. There was concern that the communities of Bunbury and Southport were not being reached and a fourth bus was considered. The Canadian Scout Jamboree was on Prince Edward Island in July of 1981, and the 4th Baptist Scout Troop was there, with six new three-man tents. They were supplied to Scoutmaster Fred Quinn by the church, on condition that after the Jamboree they would be returned for future use, in other camping ventures.
