     I was inspired to start this project a 
     
     few years ago after reading Frank 
     
     Zakem’s book dealing with his 
     
     experiences growing up in his 
     
     parents’ comer store in 
     
     Charlottetown. 
     
    

    
     It made me realize that my nieces 
     
     and nephews and their children had 
     
     no experience living in a world 
     
     without electricity and modern 
     
     conveniences. Our generation and 
     
     our way of life, as we grew up in the 
     
     forties and fifties, were fast becoming 
     
     lost memories. Consequently, n0
