students were required to write a four or five-day series of exams administered by the Atlantic Provinces Examining Board. The exams were based on the entire year’s work and were written on each of the eight or nine required subjects. Regardless of the exams that had been given by our teachers, we had to pass the APEBs before being promoted to grade twelve or graduated from high school at the completion of grade twelve. The exams were read and graded by teachers at a university in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, and the results were made known early in August.
