Of course, there was never any drinking at these parties, but the men had to make frequent trips outside after a dance set was finished to “cool off.” Interestingly, they always seemed to become more flushed and much improved step-dancers as the outdoor trips continued and the night went on.
On other nights two couples would meet at their homes for crokinole parties or for games of auction forty-fives. Prizes were not involved in these games, but the rivalry between the men and the women was always very strong, each trying to outdo the other.
A community concert took place in the late winter or early spring. A number of friends created little skits and lined up singers and dancers for the big show.
