     By mid-spring, the radio battery 
     
     was almost totally exhausted; however, 
     
     at the end of the lobster season, the round 
     
     dry cells that generated the energy for the 
     
     five-horsepower fishing-boat engine 
     
     were able to augment the radio power 
     
     pack and provide enough energy to last 
     
     until the new battery pack could be 
     
     purchased in early fall.
