Throughout our childhood, and well into our adult years, the only pastor at St. Paul’s was Father Mullally. He was appointed to the parish in August 1936, and remained as pastor until August 1966. He was a tall, rather slender man who always wore his white hair in a brush cut. He was not a very good homilist and had no singing ability at all. In spite of that, each Sunday the Church celebrated “high Mass.” The priest sang the liturgy, or service, in Latin. The choir sang the responses in that language as well. It is difficult to describe the sounds his lack of a singing voice made. However, the good man carried on and followed the liturgical protocols of the times. He was not a man to socialize. He visited with only a couple of families
