“Bucko” Trainor and Buck Whitlock, the Sydney Millionaires, Moncton Hawks, the Halifax Mooseheads, and the Glace Bay Miners provided hours of great listening. The games were called by the distinctive, capable voice of Loman MacAulay on CFCY radio. A stormy day did not mean that school was cancelled, as is the case in modern times. It meant that we were able to take a brown-bag lunch to school instead of walking home at noon. The lunch, a very simple fare, consisted usually of a molasses sandwich made with homemade bread, spread with home-churned butter. By lunch time the molasses was well soaked into the bread and through the brown paper bag, but, nevertheless, with a jam bottle of cold, Whole milk, it was a very welcome noon
