He was not the quickest horse hut a nice horse to drive and handle, (llelzgttle Major was a little horse that (’Ilarence “Soggy" Reid hought as a year— ling from Doug t\lac(}regor. ‘lody hroke this colt. won the maidens with him and also raced him in the Gold Cup Trials. l’nl‘ortunately. he was involved in an accident on the track and l)t'()l\'L‘ his leg. \\"ell—mannered and one ol~ ~lody‘s layourite horses he had everything to make a horse. the horses over the years. he deliberated for quite a while and responded. “I had so many really nice horses that I liked and some could only pace in 2:08. I think lmz/ Brow/tear Slur \yas prohahly as nice a horse that l have ever been associated with. He was such a pleasure to he around. There was no driving to him. lie was no problem on and off the track. lie was a dream horse. perfectly mannered not the fastest hut certainly one ol~ my layourites."

He rememhered all the Old Home \V'eek activities leading up to the (iold (Iup and Saucer Parade and the hig race. The ceremonies that night included The lsland llymn \vritten liy Lucy Maud Montgomery and sung by l’aith .\lcl\'enney. the post parade in dark ness except for the spotlight on the indi— vidual horses and drivers. and the huge roaring cro\\'d — especially in the infield. It was every drivers dream in this region to he in this race and ~lody was delighted. l’ou‘er Baron was the winner and jody linished third. If the opportunity pre— sented itself would he do it again? He answered. "I would love to do it again What more could you ask l‘or than to win the (iold (lup and Saucer?"
