Gaudet, David O'Brien, Robert Shepherd, and Paul MacKenzie all had many miles in the distinctive orange carts and bikes of the Earl Smith stable.

According to Earl, Walter Craig was always quick to help him and others making a start in the game. Don MacNeill was really helpful at the begin- ning. A blacksmith, Rich MacLain helped him out on numerous occasions. Francis McIsaac was superb because he was always willing to help out. Francis was a role model for Earl and other youngsters starting out.
