10 per cent of the higher class who pay 40 per cent of the total Income Tax and who therefore get $48.00 out of every $100.00 they earn, which means that they have to pay twice as much for cars and clothes as the lower classes.

I know, because I have moved from poverty to a higher income bracket. Little Sands has not only been slipping

as a farming community since my early days, but starting before that, most of the younger people went to the United States. In fact, four of my sisters became American citizens. Many of the earlier group went to Vancouver when it was built up. I understand that they still celebrate an Island day in Stanley Park, BC each summer. Many of the boys served in the police and fire department.

In Little Sands there used to be a small village around the school with factories, wharf, three stores, a large hall, a blacksmith shop and a Post Office. In the 1898 Atlas, there is a picture of a thriving small village, but at the present time there is not even a school. There were several lobster factories in the community - at least four in number, which gave some work in the spring, with no Employment Insurance to follow. Many of the fishermen went to New Brunswick to work in the woods during the winter months, when no vessels were able to stop at the Little Sands wharf, and people had to ship their products off the farm from Murray River. There were always several schooners tied up in Murray River wharfs in the late fall. Today about the only thing to show of importance in Little Sands is the wine factory, in the upper part of the community. There are several nice homes built by tourists who come in the summer. There must be close to a dozen such homes.

When they divided the Island into political areas, all of Little Sands and part of Wood Islands was included in the Murray River district. One can no longer vote in the
