lady, as it was late in the fall. I met her years later, and her experience did not seem to have hurt her. I should say that I only went out of the hospital twice in the three months. Dr. Laidlaw who was always kind to interns, gave me his car to go down to Little Sands to see my father. His many

kind deeds will always be remembered.

On arrival back to Dalhousie, one of the interns got sick and I had to fill in my two weeks’ vacation to work at maternity - one night I delivered 11 babies all on my own. The Resident told me to call him if he was needed. It was good training for a country doctor, but they would not give me my two weeks' vacation. Few interns now training can say that they never got a day off for one year - all for $8.33 a month, now they have time off and get $20,000.00 a yean

My next posting was for Gynaecology work with the noted Gynecologist, Dr. Atlee. I had many interesting cases on the service and learned many things for future use, especially through working with Dr. Atlee. I read his book 75 times at least. I could turn the pages and see all the words, every one. I thought he was tough, but I changed my mind. When he was on vacation, there was an old lady who came in with vulvar cancer, and at a conference, the Doctors agreed that she was inoperable. He called me up, wondering what they decided, and when I told him, he said ”They will be old sometime; get the instruments ready and we will perform it in the examining room.” Even though he was on vacation, and she was a non- paying patient, he came every day to see her. I was rather saddened to hear that when he died, they cremated him and spread his ashes over a farm he had owned.

I found that one of the pregnant patients had an extremely sore back. When I examined her blood, there were no platelets, she had thrombocytopetic thrombosis.
