One ofthe best ones was in Sherwood Inn in Muskoka Lakes, miles north of Toronto. Sherwood Inn is a resort noted for having visits from Royal family members, and there are many rich people who have summer homes there. On the way back, my wife and I had three doctors seated in the back ofthe car. I was driving at 70 mph on the 401 Highway on a rainy day, when a car bumped into me from the rear and then pulled ahead and kept going. One of the doctors took his number. My car received a dent in the bumper. It was assessed at $175.00, and after a few letters, the other driver’s insurance company paid. Working in the Outpatient Department at the PEI Hospital was not like it is today at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I had worked at the outpatient department in the 01d Victoria General Hospital for a couple of months. When I came to the PEI Hospital the first night, as an intern, there were 35 patients, but it was following the close of the Old Home Week exhibition. Very few people came in there after that. They went to the doctor’s office or they used their grandmother’s remedies in treating minor ailments instead of getting free treatment as today. One Thanksgiving Day, I saw 100 patients in the PEI Hospital. As a Doctor, some years later when I was working in DVA, that was how I usually spent my holidays. Anotherjob I took was that of City Health Officer, for the city of Charlottetown, which I held for 14 years and served under several mayors.
