Community Lili-
Post Ofiice
The Argyle Shore Post Oflice was part of the community for thirty- nine years. It was established on May 1, 1875 at the residence ofjohn McNevin. Mr. McNevin held the job of postmaster for over 25 years until his resignation on July 10, 1900, at which time the position was taken by Alex McNevin. It is unclear where the post office was located for the next six years but the tradition was to house it in the home of the postmaster. When Alex McNevin resigned on September 12, 1906, the reason was listed as “change of site of Post Office.”

From October 1, 1906 to August 10, 1912 the Post Office was run by Donald Stewart, who lived across the road from where the “Shore U-pick” is today. Alexander (Sandy) McNevin was the last postmaster in Argyle Shore, acting as postmaster from September 14, 1912 to May 15, 1914. He operated the office from his home which also housed a general store, located where Andrew Potts’ house is today. After the Post Oflice in Argyle Shore closed, people had to rely on rural delivery and the services of the Bonshaw Post Office which continues to the present day.
