She was sorry to leave “The Shore" as the people and students were so nice and kind to her. She went to York the next year where she taught Grades 6 to 10 and received her first class pay.

It was a real pleasure to talk with this interesting and pleasant lady

and have this story for our history.

Memories of a School Teac/Jer

% Remembered by Annita Shaw Smith

It was an honour to have been asked to write about my teaching career in Argyle Shore's one room country school. After completing my two year teacher training program at Prince of Wales College, I began teaching in Argyle Shore in August of 1967. School started the middle of August because school would be closed for two weeks in October for “Potato picking holidays". I have always said that the first six years of my teaching career were the best because ofthe wonderful children, parents and trustees of Argyle Shore. When I started teaching in Argyle Shore, there were only sixteen pupils in the six grades, but six years later there were thirty five.
