(a Mac MacKenzie was a local man, always well dressed in a white shirt, tie, vest and sweater. He was described as a scholarly gentleman and in fact taught school in Saskatchewan as ayoung man. He would, on occasion, drop into the school and walk up and down checking on the work the students were doing. One new teacher thought that he was the school inspector.
a Lillian Pinkney remembers when they had a teacher, Isabel Murchison, who was not able to maintain discipline. She only stayed a couple ofmonths. Lillian remembers the children jumping in and out of the windows. The one and only time she jumped out the window was the day her father was using his spyglass to check what was going on at the school. When she arrived home, she received quite a talking to. When she was a 10 year old in school (1932) there was a waterspout in the Strait. They were in school when somebody noticed it. The teacher, Mac MacKenzie, let them stand at the front window ofthe school and watch it. He explained to them what caused it and told them there was nothing to worry about as long as it didn’t touch land. Lillian thinks it must have been in fairly close as Mr. MacKenzie said he hoped it didn't hit Mr. MacDougall’s (her father) boat. Lillian remembers being scared when he said that and him comforting her and saying it would be okay. It did not touch the boat.
