’: Former students recall getting out early for summer vacation one year because the teacher left to have a baby; they didn't even realize that she was pregnant.
’3 Teachers would leave the kids at school alone when they went home for lunch. Ifa student broke a window playing ball during lunchtime, it cost 5 cents a pane and the parents had to put the replacement pane in. One day the teacher went home for lunch and they put Eddie MacPhail up in the attic along with his seat. When the teacher returned, she knew something was up from the kids' expressions, but she didn’t realize that Eddie was missing. Eventually, somebody spoke up and they had to get both him and his bench down. This involved stacking up all the school benches to reach him as there was no ladder available.
8 Beverly MacPhail recalls that she and Carl Potts walked to and from school a lot in grades nine and ten, but Bev said that Carl wouldn't actually walk with her, he was always behind her. She would slow down so he could catch up, but he would go slow too. If she went slow or fast he always kept the same distance behind. Shejokingly remarked that he must have liked what he saw from behind.
3 Gary MacPhail recalls one particular year in school when basically all they did was go on what is known today as field trips. They used to call this teacher Davy Crockett. They explored the beach, the woods and played in Albert's creek. One day they went to Waldron Seller‘s woods to look for squirrels.
