appointed and, after the first inspection, many things were found to be needed. Blinds, window panes, and a drinking fountain and cups were among some of the first items to be supplied. Over the years, the Institute supplied many things including educational supplies required by the teacher, and cod liver oil capsules for the pupils during the winter months. They also made sure the building was clean and scrubbed and painted when necessary.

'lhe Community Hall also benefited from the Institute members. They had the electricity installed and curtains made for the stage as well. One of the biggest projects undertaken was the development of the Argyle Shore Community Centre. With the help of a Federal

Jovernment grant, in 1973, the hall was moved a quarter ofa mile down the road to be joined with the former school which had been purchased from the government. The Institute has renovated the two buildings by installing a new heating system, a kitchen, and washroom facilities. Over the years, many activities have been organized and carried out such as art classes, folk dancing, cooking schools, courses in baby—sitting, money management, first—aid and home-nursing.
