Community Centre

(:63

The Argyle Shore Community Centre is, in reality, two buildings put together as one: the original school and the community hall. The Women’s Institute supported the local school until its closure in 1973. The school was purchased at this time by the Women’s Institute and in 1979 the Argyle Shore Community Hall was moved from the corner of the Bonshaw Road and Highway 19. It was joined to the school, resulting in the community centre. The move was done by Dawson’s bulldozer with the help of the community. Permission had to be obtained from everybody whose land was involved before the move could be made because the Hall had to be taken through each person’s property along the way. Stories reveal that the Hall did get
