Mushroom Pickers
Not that long ago, some people remember “mushroom pickers" being in the area. They would just show up and wander around picking mushrooms in farmersa pasture fields, at the provincial park and even in the cemetery. They would come from as far as Montreal. Carl Potts said, “ It took the residents awhile to realize that these were no ordinary mushrooms but magic mushrooms!"
It was discovered that these people actually had pitched a big tent in the woods. They would make a fire and dry the mushrooms at night. Apparently, in the beginning, they would mail packages of dried mushrooms back home through Canada Post. Eventually, it was discovered what they were up to and the packages were seized. They came up with other ingenious ideas like removing the inside door panels of their vans and stuffing the dried mushrooms in.
They probably made good money at this, as well as supplying their own habits. Kenny MacDougall remarked, “I guess we knew what they were doing, butjust didn’t realize there was any harm in it!”
