11. Ewen @Annie MacP/Jail (The John MacPhail Homestead)
This home of Ewen and Annie MacPhail has had a long history as it is the original John McPhail homestead and Ewen is the 5th generation to have lived here.John was one of the original settlers who came out from Scotland in 1810. He married Mary (McLean) in 1822 and in the 1861 census his holdings were 700 acres. At that time,John and lV’lary were shown as living on the present property. The house has had many renovations over the years, but as is noted from the picture, the basic structure remains.
