This property was originally part of 100 acres purchased on December 1,1821 by Allan MacDougall from British absentee landlords Sir James, Archibald and Robert hiontgomery of Venlaw in the County of Peebles, North Britain for 30£ sterling. Allan’s brotherJohn bought 100 acres on the east side of this property.
Allan and John were the sons of Samuel MacDougall and his wife, Margaret (Ferguson). They came to Prince Edward Island, with their five sons, from Morvern, Scotland in 1810, and settled in Nine Mile Creek.
Allan lVIacDougall married Letitia (Ladner), daughter ofAndrew Ladner and Sophia (Hobbs), and they raised their children, Samuel, John, Andrew, Archibald, Margaret, Letitia, Janet and Ewen in a home on the west side of the property. Presently, this is an overgrown foundation in the field which, on occasion, has turned up clay smoking
pipes and bits of china. The MacDougalls ran the farm as a mixed farm. By 1868, Allan's
