33. MacDougall (The John lWacDougall Homestead)
The very first NIacDougall home located at the shore was built byJohn lVlacDougall, who emigrated to PEI in 1810. About one hundred acres was deeded to John lWacDougall on November 30, 1821 from Sir James lV’lontgomery. In the 1841 census,John had 25 acres of arable land, 15 bushels ofwheat, 12 bushels of barley, 25 bushels ofoats, 500 bushels of potatoes, 1 horse, 5 cattle, and 12 sheep. As the forest was cleared back, another house was built where the present house is. The family cottage is on the spot where the original house was located. The original settler,John, married lVlary (MacLean) and they both emigrated from Scotland in the early 1800’s.'lhey had eleven children, Catherine, Annabell (Archibald Ferguson of Hampton), Samuel, l\1ary (John Campbell ofDeSable), Flora, Angus Andrew (Catherine Darrach), Alexander, James, Sarah (Charles Fisher), Peggy (John Livingston) and Duncan. The farm was passed on to their youngest son, Angus Andrew and his wife, Catherine. rlhey had six children, John Angus (lVIariah MacDonald from Hampton), Neil (Catherine Cavanagh), lV’lary (Jack Campbell of Mass), Catherine (Louis Richardson), and Ethel and Eflie who both died at a young age.
