The I louses of Argvle Shore 33. MacDougall (The John MacDougall Homestead ) The very first MacDougall home located at the shore was built by John MacDougall , who emigrated to PEI in 1810. About one hundred acres was deeded to John MacDougall on November 30, 1821 from Sir James Montgomery . In the 1841 census, John had 25 acres of arable land, 15 bushels of wheat, 12 bushels of barley, 25 bushels of oats, 500 bushels of potatoes, 1 horse, 5 cattle, and 12 sheep. As the forest was cleared back, another house was built where the present house is. The family cottage is on the spot where the original house was located. The original settler, John, married Mary (MacLean) and they both emigrated from Scotland in the early 1800's.They had eleven children, Catherine, Annabell ( Archibald Ferguson of Hampton), Samuel, Mary ( John Campbell of DeSable ), Flora, Angus Andrew ( Catherine Darrach ), Alexander, James, Sarah ( Charles Fisher ), Peggy ( John Livingston ) and Duncan. The farm was passed on to their youngest son, Angus Andrew and his wife, Catherine.
