The I louses of Argyle Shore 40. Randy & Carol Sellar (The Donald MacLean Homestead ) This home is one of the oldest standing homes in "The Shore". It has been passed down to the sixth generation. The farm was 103 acres at one time. It is a four gable style home with an addition being built about 100 years ago, that houses the kitchen. It is set back off the road, halfway between the road and the water. The house actually faces the water because when they built it, the water was their means of transportation. It was believed to be built circa 1830, with one of the first known owners being Donald and Anne MacEachern.Their son, Donald Jr and his wife, Grace (MacDonald),were the second generation. Their niece, Melinda Campbell , came to live with them at a young age. She later married Ambrose Sellar and this was the third generation to operate the farm. They had a mixed farm with cattle, sheep, and crops. Melinda and Ambrose had six children, Emily ( Percy MacDonald ), Grace ( George Inman and Robert Morrison ), Waldron ( Ruby MacLean ), Mildred ( John MacKinley ), Murchison (Elsie), and Minnie ( John Wright and later Ed Martin). 147
