Waldron and Ruby were the fourth generation to operate the farm. They sold three parcels ofland: one to Ronnie and Norma MacLeod, one to Lorne and Ann Bowers (now Dalvay Pollard’s) and one to Alan lV’loore. They farmed it until 1984 when Waldron became ill. They had one son, Stewart (Gloria Kennedy and later Phyllis Gallant) who built
the bungalow that is situated in front of the home place close to the
road. Stewart had five children, Randy (Carol Wright), John (Kerri lVchonald ), Nancy (Sherwyn lVchrthur), Patrick, and Melissa. After Waldron's death and Ruby's move to town, the home skipped a generation and Randy and Carol became the sixth generation to live in the home, moving there in 1985. Many relatives and boarders have also lived there over the years.
The farm land, all but 16 acres, has been sold. Bruce and Lorna Robertson bought the shore field and have a lovely summer home, and the Butcher's purchased the land across the road and established Pheonix Agricultural Services.
Randy and Carol have done many renovations to the home. They raised it and put in a new full foundation, new roof, chimney siding and windows. The shore side of the home, which overlooks the Strait, has had two large patios built. They have done extensive work to the interior of the home. Many relatives and neighbors remember, years ago, when the basement was used to store and grade potatoes and turnips, but it now houses a home gym, pool table, TV room and a bedroom. All of the hardwood floors have been salvaged throughout the house and some walls have been removed. Since the home has been passed down through the family for so long and no one has ever really “moved out", a large collection of family pictures and antiques (some being rescued from the barn) remain in the home today. .In the dining room there still hangs a picture of ancestors who previously owned the home (the second generation) Donald and Grace McLean, and a lovely picture of Ambrose’s three brothers in uniform from World War 1. Randy and Carol raised their three sons there,]osh, Tyler, and lVlatthew.
