The Houses of Argyle Shore 71. Dr Peter & Dianne Porter The one and one-half story, three bedroom family home of Peter and Dianne Porter was hand crafted in 1977 by Francis Claffey , an immigrant to Canada from the USA. He lived in the house with his mother for five years. In 1981, Peter, Dianne and their three children, Alexander, Andrea and Emily, purchased the property which includes 7.9 acres of land. They spent the next 24 years occupying the house as a summer residence and weekend retreat. The Porters moved to PEI from NS in 1971 and, after studying away for a few years, returned to the Island in 1978. Peter is a Scottish descendant of John Porter of NB and John Macintosh of Ontario , a founder of the Macintosh Apple. His grandfather, Dr. Aden Macintosh , a family doctor, was the founder of the Robert Burns Society of Perth-Andover. Dianne 's family are Harris and Hoggs , Welch immigrants from Shelburn, NS. In 2005-2006, a major renovation was completed to bring the heating, plumbing, electrical, and insulation up to date. The house was then extended with the addition of a third bedroom and additional bathroom. Architect, Holly Hinds, of Crapaud designed the renovation which was completed by Errol MacPhee of Bonshaw . The property is named Cranberry Bog, after the copious amounts of wild cranberries located on the property. Annual pruning and planting on the property keep the natural habitat healthy for wildlife. In 2006, the house became the permanent home of the Porters who continue to spend the winter months away from "The Shore". 181
