A short diary of my trip with Canadian Expeditionary Force to Siberia 260 Canadian Rifles 1918 On Sunday Sept 16th Jim Shaw.1 and I drove to Charlottetown. Left home early in the p.m. and arrived at Revere Hotel before dark having supper at l’ownal.2 Could not do any business that night but next day had received permission to be transferred from the H. Co. Charlottetown to the C.E.F. to Siberia. We arrived home Monday night and on Wednesday Sept 19 left again for Charlottetown on the p.m. train,3 spent an anxious evening trying to locate Major Stanley but it was not till Friday Sept. 21st that we left for Sussex (N.B.). Saw Jim Allen4 at Emerald and Alf Keoughan5 and W. M. Flynn“ at Summerside, but nobody else we knew till we arrived at Sussex on the evening of the same day. We had a quiet week at Sussex, small town, with a few picture houses and countless poor ice cream parlors l Jim Shaw was the fourth of six children of Allan Shaw and Sarah Gillis Their home was located on l20 acres of land on the crest ofa hill immediately south of Cardigan Station 2 This traveling was probably by horse and wagon since the time elapsed seems to have been about five to six hours. 3 It looks 5 ifthere was an afiemoon train from Cardigan 4 Jim Allan was a member of Doctor Allan’s family in Cardigan and became Station Master in Emerald ( Alf Keoughan was the manager of Lewis Granite and Marble (‘ompany afier W A Lewis‘ death Mr Lewis was my mother‘s uncle.
