may have a lot more of them before I reach home next Xmas The main camp nearby sent us some breakfast after which we again rolled up in the blankets and for the whole week or to be exact till Oct. 6, Thursday evening. Though we were encamped in a swampy place nearer Hull and Gatineau Point than Ottawa and were not allowed to leave our enclosure of about two hundred square feet, we enjoyed things very much. We had no officers and the three sergeants, Clarke, McLean and Wilder were all good fellows and let us do as we wished except leave the camp. Slept most of the time, built a big fire every night and sat around until almost midnight.
We were glad however to get to barracks as this might give us a chance of seeing something of the city, which is supposed to be the finest though by no means the largest in Canada. We were again disappointed however as we were again confined at Landsdowne beneath the grandstand on the racetrack. This is a very large building built entirely of concrete and capable of seating about ten thousand people. All the buildings of the exhibition grounds are large and fine and it is supposed to be one of the finest in Canada. Of course we had our blankets, so they moved us all into one room where we had a wild time for a few days or until the end of the week
