Thursday. Jan. 16th, 1919. Early this morning our Sgt. McLean got us out of our

sleeping quarters and told us to be ready to disembark at any time. Not until 10:30 however did we cross the gang plank and found ourselves again on terra firma. It was rather cold and as we were not too well equipped our feet were the worst. I could only get one pair of socks inside my Kitcheners13 and although I put paper and stuff in the heel they were cold just the same. we were not kept long standing on the wharf however as the order was given to march and away we went carrying our rifle, web equipment, containing 50 rounds of ammunition, two full haversacks on the side and on the back five blankets and a hammock rolled and one full kit bag. Rather heavy too, possibly 100 lb. but we had not far to go. About 500 yards to the Canadian Ordnance building where the
