On May 20th we entered the Strait of Juan de Fuca, arriving at William Head at midnight where we took on a pilot together with immigration and customs officers. Here we anchored for some hours in order not to reach Victoria during the hours of darkness. Victoria was reached at seven thirty. We berthed at the outer docks where it seemed the whole of Victoria was waiting for us. The Daily Colonist reported that the welcome was somewhat more subdued than that received by the 259th Battalion, when the SS. Monteagle docked some days before, though it seemed to my unpracticed ears, noisy enough.

Only those officers and men who had signed on in Victoria were allowed off the ship. Enough time was allowed for reunions and an hour later, the Emipress of Japan left for Vancouver. Here at the headquarters for Military District 11 the formalities of discharge were gone through with. In addition each man received a travel warrant to his home. So the 260th Battalion was disbanded, and with this the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Siberia, after a somewhat inglorious existence passed into history.
