This is her story, written in the hopes that her legacy will continue in the lives of successive generations. Kathleen Murphy has been witness to some of the most profound changes the world has ever experienced. Throughout, she has adhered to her core values and beliefs. Some would call them old—fashioned; others, looking at the exponential changes taking place around them, would call them timeless. It was a privilege to be asked to write this book. I would like to express my appreciation to Shawn Murphy, Michael Murphy and Mary Jane Cassidy for their assistance and editorial guidance. The other members of Kathleen’s family gave generously of their time and insights. Kathleen overcame her reservations to talk about herself. I would also like to thank Kenny Vail for his creativity in the design and layout of this publication. The fusion of text and photographs has served to enhance both. I hope this book will accomplish what Kathleen’s sons and daughter hoped it would, and that this story will have lasting appeal and interest to future generations. Any shortcomings are mine alone.
