However, as the pages that follow will so graphically illustrate, the truth is the exact opposite. Kathleen Murphy has, throughout her entire life, had such a profound and everlasting influence on all those around her. Hence, her spirit is present and will continue to be present in the lives

of so many. The world around her has changed but the values of family, education and religion that have guided her throughout her life have not. She has, in her own low key, modest, and unassuming manner, imparted those values upon those many people who have been part of her life.

The life of Kathleen Murphy is probably no different than those of thousands of women of her generation, and generations that came

before her. Many came from large eXtended families who lived in rural Prince Edward Island and who struggled, raised a family, saw firsthand the profound changes happening in the world around them and who

left their legacy through their children, grandchildren and generations

to come. This is a story that is told over and over in the history of this province, and our society is, and will forever owe a deep debt of gratitude to these strong individuals.

It is for this reason that the eight children of Kathleen Murphy decided that the story of her life should be recorded. As such, this remarkable story can be passed on to future generations.

All members of the family want to thank Wayne MacKinnon for taking on this assignment. His was not an easy job. Over the years, memories fade and in several instances, family members had different recollections of the same event. Wayne was able to weave an interesting and accurate narrative, and we all greatly appreciate his efforts. We also want to thank Kenny Vail of Prevail Creative Inc. for the great job he did in designing and laying out this publication. Finally, we want to thank Jennifer Murphy for her work in collecting, restoring and digitizing many of the older pictures.
