Kathleen’s older sister Marion (1920 - 2007). She took the religious name Sister Mary Edith and later; Sister Marion Keq‘e. She is buried at the Saint Martha congregation’s cemetary on the Mount Edward Rd. Charlottetown Hospital where she served as X—ray technician and later transferred to the X—ray department at the community hospital in Van Buren, Maine, also run by the Sisters of St. Martha. When it was found that no one was certified to operate the hospital’s boiler, Sister Mary Edith studied and received certification as a third grade boiler engineer. In addition to her work as an X—ray technician, medical records clerk and boiler operator, she also served as the hospital’s administrator until the Sisters turned over the hospital to local administrators. She eventually returned to Prince Edward Island where she served as administrator and general treasurer of the Congregation. If religion was a major influence on the Keefe family, patriotism was another. SiX of the Keefe brothers joined the army during the Second World War, and four served overseas. The other Keefe children also went their separate ways. John, the second oldest who was born in 1905, immigrated to Philadelphia after completing college in 1925. He went to live with his uncle Joe Monaghan. Another uncle, Jim Monaghan, worked at the Philadelphia Electric Company and John found employment there. He eventually rose to a supervisory position. 55
