Kathleen and Bill also participated actively in the Christian Family Movement. The Christian Family Movement was a national network of parish groups organized to support families and their religious life. The goal of the movement was to reinforce the church’s teachings on marriage and family life, social justice and ecumenism. The group to which Kathleen and Bill were involved consisted of five or siX couples who met regularly in each others homes, along with the parish priest. The other couples included Cletus and Edna Murphy, Lucille and Bill Killorn,

Claire and Louis Butler, along with several others. The Christian Family Movement was also active in the United States. One year, Kathleen and Bill, along with Bernice and Vernon McCarville of Kinkora and Father Alan MacDonald went to Notre Dame in Indiana where they met

members of other groups, and participated in a series of discussions and worship services.

The Christian Family Movement provided a welcome opportunity for Kathleen, with her strong views on the importance of family, to discuss family and religious matters with other couples who were interested

in learning more about social and economic issues such as poverty, the
