CHAPTER FOURTEEN:

11 September 15th, 1990, one day short of the 40th

anniversary of their wedding, Kathleen and Bill renewed

their vows in the chapel at Mount St. Marys. Present were their seven sons and one daughter, daughters—in—law and son—in—law, fourteen grandchildren and many of their friends and relatives. The chief celebrant was Reverend Preston Hamill, an old family friend, who was assisted by Reverends Ledwell Doyle and Charles MacDonald. Kevin and Sister Marion Keefe were the Eucharistic ministers. Shawn read the first lesson and Mary Jane the second. Prior to the Mass of Thanksgiving, the family had its picture taken in the lobby. After the ceremonies, the family and guests attended a reception at the Kirkwood Motel.

As an insert in that week’s church bulletin noted, “On September 15th we were privileged to be sharers in a most meaningful ceremony which

took place in our beautiful chapel a celebration of life and love by a truly Catholic family.”

Kathleen and Bill had a strong, loving relationship. While Bill was the breadwinner, Kathleen was clearly in charge of running the household and looking after the children. As Bill took on increasing responsibilities as area manager of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, his work also
