All looked forward to the regular W/ednesday lunch with Grammie
The Wednesday lunch was accompanied by a great deal of laughter, chatter and good—natured teasing and joking. Kevin Charles, the original member of the group, commandeered the head of the table in the kitchen. To counter the claim, someone acquired a reservation sign from the Kirkwood Motel and jokingly placed it at the head of the table where Kevin Charles usually took his place.
Each of the grandchildren believed they were special in Kathleen’s eyes. She followed closely their progress in school, their extra—curricular activities and applauded and celebrated their achievements. Anything that made the newspaper was cut out and attached to the refrigerator door. Making “Grammie’s fridge” was a bigger occasion than the actual event.
The Wednesday lunches brought the grandchildren together in a way that strengthened the bonds between them. It was not unusual to see older and younger grandchildren engaged in active conversation with one another. They took a great deal of interest in each other’s activities. Parents who sometimes dropped by were intrigued to see the amazing dynamics resulting from the interactions that took place during those times.
