The cemetery 29

None of the parish priests is buried in St. Michael’s ceme- tery. Father Duffy, the only one to die while pastor here, passed away in the rectory in 1933 but was buried in Kinkora. Father Willy McCabe, an Iona native, is the only priest buried here. With few exceptions, the Iona cemetery is the resting place of those who lived and worked in the area and is a lasting testi- mony in stone to their lives and labors for their God and country. One can indeed feel proud to claim affinity with them and to cherish their contribution to this Island and, especially through their offspring, to places far beyond its shores.
